I’ve worked in the translation industry for ten years and worked with hundreds of translators.

Never once was a translator recruited on the basis of their race, gender or lived experience – only translation quality. There is just too much at stake.

That said, if this author is commissioning the translation herself then she is 100% right to choose who she wants!
